Building A Mental Health Toolbox
Everyone knows the joys & struggles of living with a brain. Most of us at some point battle negative thinking, self-doubt, intrusive thoughts, anxiety, depression & stress. In this class, helpful tools from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy & Dialectical Behavioral Therapy will be shared. These can be used to develop emotion regulation, coping skills, crisis survival skills, self-worth, boundaries, motivation, a hopeful outlook & more.
This will be a lecture setting, all attendees will be respected & welcomed. No one will be "called on" or asked to share any personal experiences. Please be prepared to take notes. Attendees will leave with a better understanding of mental health & inspired to use tools for self care.

Commedia Del'Arte and the Value of Improv in Drag

Commedia dell'Arte and the Value of Improv in Drag
An underground, organic, subversive performance style ... a tradition passed down orally (heh heh) between members of a chosen family ... artists who study for years to get the looks and moves just right - sound familiar? That's right, we're talking Commedia dell'Arte, the original roots of improv comedy! Come see how a few seriously old-school improv tricks can go a long way when you're a drag performer.

Oh My Aching Feet
Foot, Ankle, Knee and Hip Exercises for Drag Queens  Walking, dancing and standing in heels takes a toll on the feet and legs.  Don't forget that legendary queens like Prince and Kevin Aviance needed double hip replacements after years of dancing in heels.  Learn some basic, easy stretches and exercises to reduce pain and increase strength. **I am not licensed in any way, but am a drag queen in my 40's who has been dancing since I was 2, and practicing yoga for 20 years. I would like to share some helpful exercises, and make sure I remember to do them during the festival.  I am open to seeking out certified yoga or fitness instructors to help with the class, but am happy to lead it myself.

3 Minute Storytelling

3 Minute Story Telling

Do you peak early and have nowhere else to go, only to run out of energy before your performance is over? If you don't have time to catch your breath, neither does your audience. If your number doesn't go somewhere, you haven't taken them anywhere.

This interactive presentation is designed to give more intentional structure and evolution to your act and get the audience invested in a narrative build. Telling a story can be done with props and costume reveals and how you use the room, or it can be stripped down to an emotional journey with only the most essential movement.

There will be an opportunity for a few performances followed by group discussion, so bring a 3-minute number if you are interested in hearing feedback!
