Commedia dell'Arte and the Value of Improv in Drag
An underground, organic, subversive performance style ... a tradition passed down orally (heh heh) between members of a chosen family ... artists who study for years to get the looks and moves just right - sound familiar? That's right, we're talking Commedia dell'Arte, the original roots of improv comedy! Come see how a few seriously old-school improv tricks can go a long way when you're a drag performer.
Drag: A Family Affair
What is a Drag Family? Why are Drag Families important? How does one get into a Drag Family? Is being in a Drag Family right for me? What are the Do's and Don't of being an amazing "Drag Parent"?
Hosted by Deb Leigh Nightshade (HBIC of The House of Urban Legendary), the goal of this panel will be to discuss everything you've always wanted to know about the tradition of "Drag Families"!
Chenille Stems & the Dream Machine Screening
Genderqueer artist and Drag Fest performer Llano River Blue screens the whimsical, socially conscious pilot episode of Chenille Stems and the Dream Machine, followed by a look at her DIY approach to filmmaking and a question-and-answer section.
Dream Machine pokes fun at the patriarchy, prods at the dreams we hang onto, and plays with the multi-faceted nature of identity. Writer, director, and star Llano weaves together live action, stop motion animation, sci-fi elements and satire. Dream Machine will be serialized on Llano River Blue’s YouTube channel. Early access and exclusive behind-the-scenes content is also available at Patreon.com/llano

3 Minute Story Telling
Do you peak early and have nowhere else to go, only to run out of energy before your performance is over? If you don't have time to catch your breath, neither does your audience. If your number doesn't go somewhere, you haven't taken them anywhere.
This interactive presentation is designed to give more intentional structure and evolution to your act and get the audience invested in a narrative build. Telling a story can be done with props and costume reveals and how you use the room, or it can be stripped down to an emotional journey with only the most essential movement.
There will be an opportunity for a few performances followed by group discussion, so bring a 3-minute number if you are interested in hearing feedback!
